Zhangzhou

Japanese: 漳州 - しょうしゅう

A city in southern Fujian Province, China. Population 350,000 (1994). It governs Longhai City and eight counties. It is located on the north bank of the Longjiang River, a tributary of the Jiulongjiang River, and a branch line of the Yingtan-Xiamen Railway (Yingtan to Xiamen) runs through it. During the Southern Dynasties' Liang Dynasty, Longxi County was established, and it was the administrative center of Zhangzhou during the Song Dynasty, Zhangzhou Road during the Yuan Dynasty, and Zhangzhou Prefecture again during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In 1951, Zhangzhou City was established in the urban area of Longxi County. It opened as a port city earlier than Xiamen, and flourished as an export port for silk textiles and sucrose during the Ming Dynasty. Even after the development of Xiamen, it continued to be a distribution center for agricultural products and paper in the Jiulongjiang River basin.

中国，福建省南部の都市。人口35万(1994)。竜海市と8県を管轄する。九竜江の支流の竜江の北岸にあり，鷹厦鉄道(鷹潭（ようたん）～厦門（アモイ）)の支線が通っている。南朝梁代に竜渓県が置かれ，宋代は漳州，元代は漳州路，明･清代は再び漳州府の治所であった。1951年，竜渓県の市街区に漳州市を設けた。港湾都市として厦門より早く開け，明代には絹織物とショ糖の輸出港として栄えた。厦門発達後も九竜江流域の農産物･紙の集散地であった。
