Around 1440-82
Flemish painter. Registered as a free master in Ghent in 1467. In 1468, he was in charge of the wedding decorations for Charles, Duke of Burgundy in Bruges. In 1475, he entered the Augustinian Abbey of Rode as an assistant. On a trip to Cologne, he suffered a mental attack on his return home, from which he suffered from the same illness ever since. None of his works are signed, but the Portinari Altarpiece, commissioned by a Florentine merchant, can be dated to 1475 or 1476 according to records, and the dates of his other works can be estimated based on the style of this altarpiece.

フランドルの画家。1467年ヘントで自由親方に登録。68年ブリュージュでブルゴーニュ公シャルルの結婚式の装飾を担当する。75年アウグスティヌス会のローデ修道院に助修士として入会。ケルンへの旅行途上，精神病の発作で帰国，以後同病に苦しむ。彼のどの作品にも署名はないが，フィレンツェの商人の注文になる《ポルティナーリPortinariの祭壇画》は記録上1475年か76年と定められうるため，他の作品もこの祭壇画の様式に基づき制作年代が推定される。
