[Died] August 22, 1979, New York American novelist. After graduating from the University of Chicago, he worked in various jobs, but his most successful works were the trilogy Young Lonigan (1932), The Young Manhood of Studs Lonigan (34), and Judgment Day (35), which depict the lives of poor Irish people living in Chicago's South Side. He then published the Danny O'Neill pentalogy A World I Never Made (36), No Star Is Lost (38), Father and Son (40), My Days of Anger (43), The Face of Time (53), and the series A Universe of Time (64-70). Her other works include a collection of short stories, A Dangerous Woman and Other Stories (57), a collection of essays, A Note on Literary Criticism (36), and Reflections at Fifty (54).

Died September 13, 1565. A French Reformer active in Metz-Switzerland. He studied humanities as a pupil of Lefebvre d'Etaples, studied the Bible at the University of Paris, and served as director of Cardinal Lemoyne's academy. He joined the Reformation and, together with Lefebvre and others, belonged to the "Men of Meaux." In 1527, he became a preacher and worked to evangelize the lower classes in various places. In 1523, he went to Switzerland, and, with the cooperation of Calvin, he played an active role in the Reformation in Geneva and Lausanne. From 1538 onwards, he was active mainly in Neuchâtel. He was the first French Protestant theologian to write Sommaire et brève déclaration (1525).

Farrel, Suzanne

Born August 16, 1945 in Cincinnati. American dancer. Graduated from the School of American Ballet, she was discovered by G. Balanchine in 1961 and joined the New York City Ballet. As Balanchine's favorite ballerina, she played leading roles in his major works such as "Don Quixote". She left the company for a while when she got married in 1969, but returned the following year in 1970 as a top dancer with M. Béjart's 20th Century Ballet, dancing in "Nijinsky: The Clown of God" and "Les Fleurs du Mal". In 1975, Balanchine asked her to return to the company for the production of his new work "Tigane", and she continued to star in "Viennese Waltz" and "David's Confederation Dances" before retiring in 1989.

スイスで活躍したフランスの宗教改革者。ルフェーブル・デタープルの弟子として人文学を学び,パリ大学で聖書を研究し,カルディナル・ルモワーヌの学院長をつとめる。改革派に入り,ルフェーブルらとともに「モーの人々」に属し,1527年説教者として各地で下層民への伝道に努める。 23年スイスに行き,カルバンの協力を得て,ジュネーブ,ローザンヌの宗教改革に活躍。 38年以後ヌーシャテルを中心に活動。フランス・プロテスタント最初の神学者として『簡約なる宣言』 Sommaire et brève déclaration (1525) を著わした。

アメリカの舞踊家。アメリカン・バレエ学校を卒業し,1961年 G.バランシンに見出されてニューヨーク・シティー・バレエ団に入団。バランシンお気に入りのバレリーナとして,『ドン・キホーテ』など彼の主要な作品で主役をつとめた。 69年結婚を機に一時バレエ団を離れるが,翌 70年 M.ベジャールの 20世紀バレエ団のトップダンサーとして復帰,『ニジンスキー・神の道化』『悪の華』などを踊った。 75年バランシンは新作『チガーヌ』上演に際し,彼女のバレエ団復帰を要請,以後『ウィンナ・ワルツ』『ダビッド同盟舞曲集』などで主演を続け,89年引退した。
