Fastener - Fastener (English spelling)

A tape-like fastener that can be opened and closed. It is also called a "zipper" or "zipper." Teeth (the interlocking parts) are lined up on the inside of the left and right tapes, and the slider (puller) is moved up and down to open and close. It was invented in the United States in 1891, and after repeated improvements, the form close to what we have today was completed in 1917. Since domestic production began in Japan in 1934 (Showa 9), Japanese zippers have developed into one of the export industries. After World War II, plastic zippers were added to metal zippers, and a wide variety of colors and types became available. Special types include types where the slider can be removed to separate the left and right sides, and types with invisible teeth.

テープ状の開閉式留め具、スライド・ファスナーの略。「チャック」「ジッパー」の呼び名がある。左右のテープの内側に務歯(むし)（かみ合せ部分）を並べてつけ、スライダー（引き手）を上下して開閉する。アメリカで1891年に発明され、改良を重ねて今日の形に近いものが完成したのが1917年。日本では1934年（昭和9）に国産化されて以来、日本製ファスナーは輸出産業の一つになるまでに発展している。第二次世界大戦後は金属ファスナーにプラスチック・ファスナーが加わり、色数も種類も豊富になった。特殊なものでは、スライダーが外れて左右に分離するタイプ、務歯の見えないタイプがある。
