Katabatic wind - Katabatic wind
Katabatic winds are also called descent winds. They occur when cold air cooled by radiation at high altitudes becomes heavy and descends a slope. The English word is katabatic wind, which is derived from the Greek word katabatikos (descent). The winds that develop in Antarctica, Greenland, the fjords of Norway, etc. are well known.
