Hiroshima University - Hiroshima University

A national university corporation. Based on Hiroshima Higher Normal School, founded in 1902 (Meiji 35), and Hiroshima University of Literature and Science, founded in 1929 (Showa 4), it was established in 1949 (Showa 24) as a new national university consisting of six faculties: Literature, Education, Political Science and Economics, Science, Engineering, and Fisheries and Animal Science, incorporating Hiroshima High School, Hiroshima Higher Technical School, Hiroshima Women's Higher Normal School, Hiroshima Normal School, and Hiroshima Youth Normal School, as well as merging with Hiroshima Municipal Technical College.

In 1953, Hiroshima Medical College was transferred to the university and the School of Medicine was established, followed by the School of Dentistry in 1965, and in 1974, the School of Liberal Arts was expanded and reorganized to form the School of Integrated Arts and Sciences. In 1977, the School of Politics and Economics was separated and reorganized into the School of Law and the School of Economics, in 1978, the School of Education was reorganized and the School of School Education was added (in 2000, the School of Education and the School of School Education were reorganized into the School of Education), and in 1979, the School of Fisheries and Livestock Sciences was reorganized into the School of Biological Production. In 2006, the School of Medicine's Department of Integrated Pharmacy was reorganized and the School of Pharmacy was established, and as of 2010, the university has grown into a comprehensive university with 11 faculties. The graduate schools of Integrated Arts and Sciences, Letters, Education, Social Sciences, Science, Advanced Material Science, Medical and Dental Sciences, Health Sciences, Engineering, Biosphere Science, and International Cooperation all have doctoral programs, and there is also a Law School. The Atomic Bomb Radiation Biology Research Institute is an attached research institute. Other facilities include the Higher Education Research and Development Center, the Early Childhood Education Research Facility, and the Amphibian Research Facility. The Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics had had second departments since 1950, but in 1995 they were reorganized along with the other two faculties, and courses were established that were primarily taught in the evenings. All of the university's institutions, except for the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Pharmacy, were integrated and relocated to a new campus in Higashi-Hiroshima City. In April 2004, following the enforcement of the National University Corporation Act, the university became a National University Corporation. Its headquarters are located at 1-3-2 Kagamiyama, Higashi-Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
