A town in Yame County in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, on the eastern edge of the Chikushi Plain. In addition to rice and wheat, the town cultivates fruit and vegetables, and engages in dairy farming. Its specialties are Kurume Gasuri textiles and bamboo products. Many people commute to Kurume City. It is home to the Sekijinyama Kofun (historic site). Area: 37.94 km2 .
