They call themselves Bama. They are an ethnic group that speak a language belonging to the Tibeto-Burman branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family, and make up about 70% of the total population of Myanmar. In the periphery of the country, dialects such as Arakan on the southwest coast, Tavoi and Bay on the southeast coast, Intha, Taungyo and Danu in the eastern mountainous region, and Yo in the west are spoken. Anthropologically, the Burmese belong to the Mongoloid race, with straight black hair and brown skin. They mainly live in the plains of the middle and lower reaches of the Irrawaddy River and its tributaries, the Chindwin River and the Sittaung River basins, as well as on the coasts of Arakan and Tenasserim, and most of them engage in agriculture.
