A former town in Asakura County, central Fukuoka Prefecture. It occupies an alluvial fan at the northeastern end of the Tsukushi Plain, at the southern foot of the Mikuni Mountains. Rice is the main crop, but strawberries, grapes, and livestock are also cultivated. Blessed with good quality water, tofu production is thriving. The Amagi Railway runs through the town, and many people commute to Fukuoka City. In March 2005, it merged with Yasu Town, Asakura County, to become a town, Chikuzen Town. 21.71 km2 .
