A former town in Asakura County, central Fukuoka Prefecture. It occupies an alluvial fan at the northeastern end of the Tsukushi Plain, at the southern foot of the Mikuni Mountains. Rice is the main crop, but strawberries, grapes, and livestock are also cultivated. Blessed with good quality water, tofu production is thriving. The Amagi Railway runs through the town, and many people commute to Fukuoka City. In March 2005, it merged with Yasu Town, Asakura County, to become a town, Chikuzen Town. 21.71 km2 . 福岡県中部,朝倉郡の旧町。筑紫(つくし)平野の北東端,三郡山地南麓の扇状地を占める。米作を主とし,イチゴ,ブドウなどの栽培,畜産も営む。良質の水に恵まれ豆腐類の製造が盛ん。甘木(あまぎ)鉄道が通じ,福岡市への通勤者が多い。2005年3月朝倉郡夜須町と合併し町制,筑前町となる。21.71km2。1万2465人(2003)。
