A major American manufacturer of trucks, agricultural machinery, and construction machinery. One of the world's largest manufacturers of agricultural and construction machinery. Headquartered in Chicago. Abbreviated as IH. It began in 1902 when five major companies, including McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, the largest agricultural machinery manufacturer in the United States at the time, and Dearing Company, the second largest, merged to form International Harvester Company in New Jersey. As the company strengthened its monopoly position both domestically and overseas, it was forced to dissolve by the government in 1913 as a company with trade restrictions, but was reinstated in 1918.
