A village in Ishikawa County, southeastern Fukushima Prefecture. Population 8,322 (1995). Occupying the southern part of the Abukuma Highlands, it is located roughly halfway between Iwaki City and Koriyama City. The village is located on a plateau at an altitude of 300-600m, and more than 60% of the total area is made up of forests. Cultivated land is scattered in the basins of the Kitasu River and Hirata River, which flow westward through the center of the village. It is a typical mountain farming village, with 40% of the working population engaged in agriculture, with many migrant workers in the winter. The village mainly grows tobacco leaves, rice, and livestock, and in recent years, the cultivation of vegetables, flowers, and ornamental trees has also increased. 福島県南東部,石川郡の村。人口8322(1995)。阿武隈高地南部を占め,いわき市と郡山市のほぼ中間に位置する。村域は標高300~600mの高原地帯にあり,総面積の60%以上は山林で占められ,村のほぼ中央部を西流する北須川と平田川の流域に耕地が散在する。典型的な山間農村で,就業人口の4割が農業に従事し,冬季の出稼ぎが多い。葉タバコ栽培を中心に米作,畜産が行われ,近年,野菜,花卉,花木の栽培も増加している。
