Also known as Eohippus. The oldest and most primitive ancestor of horses. It lived in North America and Europe in the early Eocene. It was about 30 cm tall at the shoulder. It was agile, with legs suited to running, a curved back, and a long, low skull. It had thin limbs and long feet, with four toes on the front legs and three on the back legs.
