Hirakiki Shrine

Located in Kaimon-cho, Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, this ancient shrine enshrines Hiramiki-no-kami (Kaimon-no-kami). It is an ancient shrine located at the southernmost tip of Kyushu Island, at the foot of Mt. Kaimon, also known as Satsuma Fuji. It was designated a minor shrine under the Engi system, and since the main building was rebuilt by Shimazu Tadahisa in 1200 (Shoji 2), it has been repaired and rebuilt more than ten times by successive feudal lords, and the current main building was rebuilt by Shimazu Shigehide in 1787 (Tenmei 7). It has been highly revered by the Ryukyus since ancient times, and several inscriptions of "praise of divine virtue" have been donated in the name of the Ryukyu king. In May 1871 (Meiji 4), it was designated a minor shrine. The sacred treasure is a pine and plum lacquer comb box from the Muromachi period. The annual festival is held on October 15th.
