Ise Sarugaku

Japanese: 伊勢猿楽 - いせさるがく

There were three Sarugaku troupes that performed at the New Year and April ceremonies at Ise Shrine: Waya, Katsuta, and Aoso/Aoo (Aoo). In the section of the Shingi chapter of the Fushi Kaden that describes the Sarugaku troupes of various provinces, it says "Ise, Shushi, two troupes." Shushi is a "jyoshu" (curse master), indicating that Ise Sarugaku was a troupe descended from the jyoshu masters who performed a performance known as "hashiri" at Shusse-e and Shuni-e ceremonies held at temples during the Heian and Kamakura periods. Although it says "two troupes," the four-volume version of the Fushi Kaden adds after this "Waya, Katsuta.

伊勢神宮の正月と4月の神事に勤仕していた猿楽座で，和屋，勝田，青苧（あおそ∥あおお）(青王（あおお）)の3座があった。《風姿花伝》神儀編の諸国の猿楽座について記した個所に〈伊勢，主司（しゆし），二座〉とある。〈主司〉は〈呪師〉であり，伊勢猿楽が平安･鎌倉期の寺院の修正会･修二会で〈走り〉と呼ばれる芸を演じていた呪師の系統の座であることが示されている。〈二座〉とあるが，四巻本系の《風姿花伝》ではこのあとに〈和屋，勝田。
