Japanese: 瓢簞鯰 - ひょうたんなまず

Title of a Kabuki dance piece. Nagauta. Tokiwazu. First performed at the Edo Nakamuraza in March 1828 (Bunsei 11). One of the seven-change shosagoto pieces, Nijirigaki Nanatsuiroha. Performed by Nakamura Shikan II (Nakamura Utaemon IV). Lyrics by Segawa Jogo II. Music by Kineya Rokuzaemon 10 and Kishizawa Shikisa 3. Choreography by Nishikawa Senzo 4, Fujima Daisuke and others. The piece is based on an Otsu-e painting of a man clad only in a robe trying to hold down a catfish with a gourd. It is a humorous and cheerful dance that includes witty Shinnai-style ramblings.

歌舞伎舞踊の曲名。長唄。常磐津。1828年(文政11)3月江戸中村座初演。七変化所作事《拙筆力七以呂波（にじりがきななついろは）》の一曲。演者は2世中村芝翫(4世中村歌右衛門)。作詞2世瀬川如皐（じよこう）。作曲10世杵屋（きねや）六左衛門，3世岸沢式佐。振付4世西川扇蔵，藤間大助ほか。じゅばん一枚の男が瓢簞で鯰を押さえようとする大津絵から題材をとった作品。しゃれのめした新内風のクドキを語ったり，ひょうきんで陽気な踊りである。
