…In 1909, it became the mining division of the Mitsui General Partnership, but in 1911 it became independent as Mitsui Mining Co., Ltd., and together with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Mitsui Bank, played a major role in the formation of the Mitsui Conzern, with Mitsui General Partnership at the apex. After World War II, with the dissolution of the zaibatsu, the metals division was separated and Kamioka Mining Co., Ltd. (now Mitsui Metals Co., Ltd.) was established, concentrating its operations on coal. With the progress of the energy revolution and the instability of labor-management relations, the company came up with a restructuring plan in 1959, including staff reductions, but this led to the so-called Miike strike. …
