An island in the northwest of Hawaii, USA. A volcanic island made up of extinct volcanoes, with the highest point being Mount Kawaikini (1,576m). It has the Waimea Canyon canyon. It produces sugar cane and is also known for its tree fern colonies. The center is Lihue on the east coast. Captain Cook was the first to land on the Hawaiian Islands in 1778. 1,427 km2 .
