Osaka Sanpin Exchange

Japanese: 大阪三品取引所 - おおさかさんぴんとりひきじょ

A commodity exchange located in Kitakyutaro-cho, Higashi-ku, Osaka City. It is often abbreviated to Sanshina, and is also called Sanshina Exchange. Osaka was already a distribution center for cotton-related products, from cotton produced in the suburbs to cotton thread and cotton cloth products, during the Edo period. However, with the development of the modern cotton spinning industry in the Meiji period, Osaka came to rely on imports for much of its raw cotton. As a result, there were more and more fluctuations, such as the harvest yield of imported cotton and trends in the export market for cotton products, and the movement to find a place to ensure safe and smooth transactions among related businesses gradually grew stronger.

大阪市東区北久太郎町にある商品取引所。略して〈三品〉ということが多く，三品取引所ともいう。大阪は，江戸時代すでに近郊産出の綿花から綿糸，綿布の製品に至る綿関係の集散地だったが，明治年間に入って近代綿紡績業が発展するとともに，その原料綿花の多くを輸入に依存するようになった。この結果，輸入綿花の作柄の豊凶，綿製品輸出市場の動向など変動要因が多くなり，関連業者の間に取引の安全，円滑を図る場を求める動きが徐々に強まっていった。
