...In 1400, Motoshige became Kanze Daifu, but Zeami was banished to Sado Island the following year as an old man, perhaps because he incurred the shogun's wrath over his succession. We know that Zeami was still alive in February 1436 (Eikyō 8) from the collection of small songs and dances (Kantō-shō) written on the island, Kinzō-shō, but it is unclear whether he returned to Kyoto or not. The date of his death (August 8) is recorded at the Soto Zen temple Fugan-ji (Tawara-cho, Nara Prefecture), where Zeami and his wife were devoted, but the year of his death is unknown, and all that remains is that he was 81 years old. ...

…33年に元重が観世大夫となったが，その大夫継承をめぐって将軍の怒りに触れたのか，世阿弥は翌年老残の身を佐渡へ流された。在島中の小謡曲舞（こうたいくせまい）集《金島書》によって1436年(永享8)2月に健在だったことは知られるが，帰洛したか否かは明らかでない。世阿弥夫妻が帰依した曹洞宗補巌寺（ふがんじ）(奈良県田原本町)に彼の忌日(8月8日)が記録されているが，没年は不明で，81歳没との伝承が残るのみである。…
