…In 1917, he was appointed professor at Nagasaki Medical College, where he established his theory of sketching life: “Contemplating the truth and depicting the life of the unity of nature and self.” In 1921, he published his collection of poems, “Aratama,” and established a state of mind in which he further deepened his theory of sketching life. In October of the same year, he studied in Europe, where he spent the next three years doing medical research, and on his way back to Japan after receiving his doctorate in medicine, he heard the tragic news that the Aoyama Brain Hospital, run by his foster father, had burned down. …
