Peasant traffic - Hyakushoourai

Japanese: 百姓往来 - ひゃくしょうおうらい

A type of correspondence. A basic textbook compiled in the Edo period for the children of farmers. The first edition (one volume, written by Tosoushi) was published in 1766, and books with similar titles and contents spread throughout the country. The contents were based on the ideas of the feudal lords, such as "Goningumicho Zensho" and "Keian no Gofukusho," and were intended to teach the knowledge and literacy necessary for farmers, such as farm work, tax payment, clothing, food, and raising cattle and horses.

往来物の一種。江戸時代に編纂された農民の子弟のための初歩的教科書。明和3 (1766) 年刊の版本 (1冊，禿掃子著) を最初として，以後類似の題名，内容の書が全国に普及した。内容は，「五人組帳前書」や『慶安の御触書』など領主側の思想に拠りながら，農作業，納税，衣服，食物，牛馬飼育など，農家に必要な知識と文字を学ばせようとしたもの。
