A shrine whose main deity is the God of Sumiyoshi. There are over 2,000 shrines nationwide, with the head shrine being Sumiyoshi Taisha in Osaka. Together with this shrine in Shimonoseki and Fukuoka, it is known as one of the three great Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan. [1] Former name of Sumiyoshi Taisha in Sumiyoshi, Sumiyoshi Ward, Osaka City. It is said that Empress Jingu , who returned victorious from her conquest of the Three Kingdoms, founded the shrine following a divine revelation from the three gods of Tsutsuno (the Gods of Sumiyoshi) who protected the ships of the conquest of Korea.
