A town in Abashiri County, eastern Hokkaido. On the Sekihoku Main Line. The lowlands near the confluence of the Abashiri River and the Bihoro River produce potatoes, wheat, and onions, and there is a sugar refinery and an agricultural processing plant. It is a tourist base on the Kitami side of Akan National Park, which is reached via the Bihoro Pass. Area: 438.41 km2 . Population: 21,575 (2010).
