Pulverized coal

It is very fine coal with a particle size of about 0.5 mm or less that is settled and thickened in a thickener or settling tank at the final stage of the coal flotation process, etc. There is no precise definition. It is used as a raw material for steelmaking, for power generation, and as fuel, etc.

After the oil crisis, in order to efficiently burn and gasify coal, general coal began to be pulverized to particles of approximately 0.2 millimeters or less and injected into the furnace through special nozzles as pulverized coal combustion in power plants and pulverized coal injection into blast furnaces in steel mills.

浮遊選炭法などの終段でシックナーまたは沈殿池で沈降濃縮した、粒径0.5ミリメートル以下程度の非常に細かい石炭のことで、正確な定義はない。用途としては製鉄原料炭、発電用、燃料用などとして用いられる。

　オイル・ショック以降、石炭の効率的燃焼やガス化のために、一般炭を粒径0.2ミリメートル以下程度に微粉砕し発電所における微粉炭燃焼や製鉄所における高炉への微粉炭吹込みとして特殊なノズルから炉内に吹き込まれるようになった。
