…He is considered to be the scholar who played a role in bringing together the academic research of the Alexandrian school, which had Aristarchus of Samothrace at its apex. He wrote “The Criticism of Aristarchus,” which clarified the problem of Aristarchus’s revision of Homer, which was already unclear at the time, and is said to have written 4,000 volumes of works, including commentaries on Greek classical works, and was nicknamed “Iron Stomach Chalkenteros” for his vast knowledge. All of his works have been lost, but as far as can be seen from old annotations of classical works, it is assumed that his main talent was in compiling the work of his predecessors, rather than investigating the problem of textual revision himself. …
