〘noun〙① A misdeed that was previously committed. Kyuo. "Old evil comes to light." *Shoku Nihongi - Tenpyo Hoji 8th year (764), October 9th month, Rabbit "I have forgotten my _past evils and have washed _them away, _and _have turned my virtue into new good." [The Analects - Gongye Chang] ② In the Edo period, with the exception of those who committed treason and other specific serious crimes, if a person did not commit a crime again or was not involved in other crimes, the right to punish them disappeared 12 months after the crime. 〘名〙① 以前に行なった悪事。きゅうお。「旧悪が露顕する」※続日本紀‐天平宝字八年（764）一〇月己卯「朕念黎庶洗_二滌旧悪_一、遷_二善新美_一」〔論語‐公冶長〕② 江戸時代、逆罪の者そのほか特定の重罪を除き、いったん罪を犯しても、その後再犯がなく、ほかの犯罪にかかわり合いがなければ、犯罪後一二か月経過すれば、これに対する刑罰権が消滅したこと。また、この制度を適用する犯罪。〔禁令考‐別巻・棠蔭秘鑑・亨・一八・延享元年（1744）〕
