According to Greek mythology, the pine tree is said to be the incarnation of Pitys, a nymph. She was loved by both the god Pan and the north wind god Boreas, but when she accepted Pan's love, she was blown away by Boreas, and the earth goddess Gaia took pity on her and turned her into a pine tree, or she was transformed to avoid Pan.
