Abbot of the Abbey of Corbie in France. He was a monk at the monastery, but succeeded his brother Adalardus (c. 751-826) as abbot. In 818 he joined the rebellion of Bernard, King of Italy, and went into exile with his brother. In 822, he became the guardian of Louis the Elder's eldest son, Lothair I, who was effectively exiled to Rome, by order of Louis the Elder. Thereafter, he played a key role in the support of Lothair and was a key advocate of the Sixth Council of Paris, which cornered Louis the Elder.

フランスのコルビー修道院の院長。同院の修道士であったが，兄アダラルドゥスAdalardus(751ころ‐826)の後をうけて修道院長となる。818年，イタリア王ベルナールの反乱にくみし，兄とともに亡命した。822年ルートウィヒ1世の命により，事実上ローマに追放された同帝の長子ロタール1世の後見人となるが，以後ロタール派の中で一貫して重きをなし，ルートウィヒ1世を追いつめた第6回パリ公会議の主唱者であった。
