…After a pilgrimage to Jerusalem (1523-24), he studied Latin in Barcelona (1524-26), higher education in Alcalá and Salamanca (1526-27), and philosophy and theology in Paris (1528-35). In 1536 he completed his theology studies in Venice and was ordained a priest on June 24 of the following year. Around this time he decided to use the name Ignatius of Antioch instead of Inigo. He settled in Rome at the end of 1537, wrote the Draft Rule of the Society, and when the founding of the Society was approved by Pope Paul III in September 1540, he was elected Superior General on April 8, 1541, a position he held until his death. …
