Cape Agulhas (English spelling)

Japanese: アガラス[岬]（英語表記）Cape Agulhas

The southernmost cape of the African continent (latitude 34°50' south, longitude 20°0' east). It belongs to the Republic of South Africa and is located about 150 km southeast of the Cape of Good Hope. The name of the cape means needle in Portuguese, and comes from the sharp reef at the tip of the cape. There is a bank offshore, which is a good fishing ground. There is also an oceanographic view that the cape separates the Indian Ocean from the Atlantic Ocean, while the Agulhas Current from the Indian Ocean flows into False Bay further west of the cape, and therefore the Cape Peninsula, where the Cape of Good Hope is located, is the boundary.

アフリカ大陸最南端の岬(南緯34゜50′，東経20゜0′)。南アフリカ共和国に属し，喜望峰の南東約150kmにある。岬名はポルトガル語で針を意味し，岬の先端の鋭い岩礁に由来する。沖合はバンク(堆)で，好漁場となっている。なお，インド洋と大西洋を分けるのに，この岬をもってする考えと，インド洋からのアガラス暖流が岬のさらに西方のフォールス湾に流れこむので，喜望峰のあるケープ半島を境界とする海洋学的見解とがある。
