A former town in Kitaakita County in northern Akita Prefecture. Its center is Ogida along the Hanawa Line in the southeastern part of the Odate Basin, and during the Edo period it was a river port on the Yoneshiro River. The Okuzo Gold Mine was one of the largest in the country during the Edo period. Hinai chicken and broom tree nuts (tonburi) are local specialties. Okuzo Hot Springs is located here. 秋田県北部,北秋田郡の旧町。中心は大館盆地南東部の花輪線に沿う扇田で,江戸時代米代(よねしろ)川の河港であった。大葛(おおくぞ)金山は江戸時代全国有数の金山。比内鶏,ホウキギの実(とんぶり)を特産する。大葛温泉がある。2005年6月北秋田郡田代町と大館市へ編入。205.39km2。1万2159人(2003)。
