A typical corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy. Its standard composition is 3.5% magnesium (Mg), 0.25% chromium (Cr), with small amounts of lead, manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), iron, titanium, etc. Soft alloys have good ductility and are used for plates, bars, and tubes. Most Al-Mg alloys have age hardening due to the precipitation of the β phase (Al 8 Mg 5 ), but since no precipitation is preferable for corrosion resistance, they are only solution-treated at about 350°C without aging treatment. Therefore, their strength is about 23 kg/mm 2. Other aluminum-based corrosion-resistant alloys include the Al-Mg-Si-based Aldry and Alzurr, and the Al-Mn-Cu-based Alumin. Al-Mg-Si-based alloys are age-hardened by the precipitation of magnesium silicide (Mg 2 Si).
