Hitoyoshi-so

Japanese:
Hitoyoshi-so
This manor was located in Kuma County, Higo Province, and corresponds to the area around Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture today. According to the Kuma County Field Count Order of 1197, the number of fields (public fields) was 600 cho, the head office was Rengeo-in, the lord was Hachijo-in, the custodian was Nakahara Kiyonari, and the manor officials were the local powers of the county, such as the Hitoyoshi clan, the Sue clan, and the Kume clan. It is assumed that the forerunner of this manor was the Kuma Usumano Manor, which was removed from the Heike confiscated land by Minamoto no Yoritomo in 1184 and given to Taira no Yorimori. In addition, since the lord's side continued to call it Kuma Manor even after the manor was established, it is assumed that there was an imperial lord's land, Kuma Manor, which covered the entire county, before the manor was established. In 1205, Sagara Nagayori, a vassal of the Totomi Province, became a land steward and exerted his influence, but in 1244 the land stewardship was divided and the northern land stewardship went to the Hojo clan. According to a notice from the same year, in 1198, Honjo and Togo constituted the area of kishoden (a type of land that was requested by the shogun) with over 352 cho, and in 1212 an inspection revealed that the area of shieda (a type of land that was requested by the shogun) was over 111 cho. The kishoden and shieda were organized under the names of feudal lords, and there were about 70 lay people. In addition, tsukuda (a type of land that was not requested by the shogun) and various types of land for disposal were set for the kishoden. In the 14th century, the situation regarding the payment of annual taxes to the lord's house deteriorated, and during the Nanboku-cho period, the payment of taxes and official duties to the honjo and lord's house almost ceased, and the actual status of the manor was lost.
