A perennial plant of the orchid family that grows on the forest floor in warm temperate zones. There are several pseudobulbs underground that are connected together. The axillary bud of the pseudobulb develops a single new leaf in autumn and overwinter, but dies in summer. The base of the stem thickens and becomes a new pseudobulb. It has a leaf stalk about 5 cm long, a narrow ovate leaf blade with a reddish purple underside, and a length of 3-6 cm. In May and June, it grows a flower stalk about 20 cm high at the top, and produces about 10 flowers. The flowers are pale yellow-green with a purple-brown tinge, bloom downward, and are about 7 mm in diameter. The petals and sepals are broadly linear and open flat, the lip is three-lobed, and the lateral lobes are small.

暖温帯の林床に生えるラン科の多年草。地下に数個の偽球茎があり，連なる。偽球茎の腋芽（えきが）は秋に新葉を1枚展開し，越冬するが，夏には枯れる。茎の基部は肥厚し，新偽球茎となる。5cmくらいの葉柄があり，葉身は狭卵形で，裏面は紅紫色を帯び，長さ3～6cm。5～6月，高さ20cm前後の花茎を頂生し，10個くらいの花をつける。花は紫褐色を帯びた淡黄緑色で，下向きに咲き，径約7mm。花弁と萼片は広線形で平開し，唇弁は3裂し，側裂片は小さい。
