Cape Ochiishi

Japanese: 落石岬 - おちいしみさき
Cape Ochiishi

A cape jutting out onto the Pacific coast of Nemuro City in eastern Hokkaido. A hard layer of Cretaceous conglomerate and agglomerate forms the cape, with a sea cliff at its tip. The Ochiishi Cape Lighthouse, opened in 1892 (Meiji 25), stands on a terrace about 50 meters above sea level. The marshes on the terrace are home to a colony of purple-red Sakai Azalea, which is at the southern limit of the area where it grows naturally and has been designated a national natural monument. Ochiishi Fishing Port is located to the north of the cape. It is about 4 kilometers southwest of Ochiishi Station on the JR Nemuro Main Line.
