Also known as equine glanders. Originally caused by the glanders bacteria, this is a legally regulated infectious disease of horses and donkeys. It is not endemic in Japan. It can sometimes spread to humans and other livestock. Abscesses form in the nasal mucosa and lungs, and the disease often leads to lymphatic system lesions throughout the body and death. 馬鼻疽とも。元来は鼻疽菌によるウマやロバの家畜法定伝染病。日本には常在しない。ときに人間や他の家畜に伝染する。鼻粘膜や肺に膿瘍(のうよう)が生じ,全身のリンパ系の病変を起こし死亡することが多い。治療にはサルファ剤や抗生物質を用いる。
