Born: September 1, 1909 in Karuizawa
[Died]April 4, 1957, Cairo Canadian historian and diplomat. After graduating from Cambridge University in 1935, he studied Japan and China at Harvard University, and in 1939 obtained his doctorate in Japan's Emergence as a Modern State. In the same year, he joined the Canadian Foreign Service and came to Japan. He was stationed in Tokyo until he returned to Japan on an exchange ship in 1942. In September 1945, he returned to Japan as the head of the Research and Analysis Section of the Counterintelligence Department of the Allied Powers Headquarters. In 1946, he became the head of the Canadian delegation to Japan, and in 1949, the Canadian minister to Japan. At the San Francisco Peace Conference, he was the chief of the Canadian delegation and served as an aide to Foreign Minister L. Pearson. In 1953, he became the Canadian high commissioner to New Zealand, and in 1956, the Canadian ambassador to Egypt and the Canadian minister to Lebanon. His greatest achievement as a historian was that he opened up a new dimension in the study of Japanese history, making him one of the most outstanding scholars of Japanese history. His other works include The Forgotten Thinker - Ando Shoeki and the Anatomy of Japanese Feudalism (1949).

Born September 21, 1947 in Louisville. American playwright. Studied at the University of Louisville and other institutions. Active in local theater since the 1970s, she gained attention in 1977 with "Getting Out," a play about a former female prisoner struggling to come to terms with her past. She then made her Broadway debut with Night, Mother (1982), a realistic portrayal of the conflict between a daughter who decides to commit suicide and a mother who tries to stop her, for which she won the Pulitzer Prize. Her most recent works include the screenplay for the musical The Secret Garden (1991, Tony Award-winning).

[Died] February 4, 1950. London. British banker. Educated at Eton College and King's College. Served in South Africa from 1900 to 1901, where he received military honors. In 1916 he became assistant acting governor of the Bank of England, in 1918 acting governor, and from 1920 he served as governor for 24 years. He handled economic issues after World War I, and developed relationships with central banks around the world, especially American banks. On his retirement in 1944 he was created Norman Baron St. Clair, Kent.

A city in central Oklahoma, United States. It is located about 25 km south of Oklahoma City. It started as a tent village in 1889 when the region was opened to white settlers. It is surrounded by large agricultural areas and is a distribution center for livestock and dairy products. It is also a commercial center with oil fields nearby. Light industries are also located here. It is home to the University of Oklahoma, which was founded in 1992. Population: 110,925 (2010).

イギリスの銀行家。イートン大学,キングズ・カレッジに学ぶ。 1900~01年南アフリカに従軍し勲功を立てる。 16年イングランド銀行の総裁代理補佐,18年に総裁代理,20年以降 24年間にわたって総裁をつとめた。第1次世界大戦後の経済問題を処理し,各国の中央銀行,特にアメリカの銀行との関係を発展させた。 44年の退職に際して,ケント県セントクレアのノーマン男爵の称号を受けた。
