A former town in Kitamorokata District, southern Miyazaki Prefecture. Occupying the northeastern part of the Miyakonojo Basin, it cultivates rice and livestock, and also produces tobacco leaves, taro, and burdock. National Route 10 runs through it. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Miyakonojo City along with Takasaki Town, Yamada Town, and Yamanokuchi Town in Kitamorokata District. Area: 94.21 km2 . Population: 12,613 (2003). 宮崎県南部,北諸県(きたもろかた)郡の旧町。都城(みやこのじょう)盆地の北東部を占め,米作,畜産を行い,葉タバコ,サトイモ,ゴボウなども産する。国道10号線が通じる。2006年1月北諸県郡高崎町,山田町,山之口町と都城市へ編入。94.21km2。1万2613人(2003)。
