Artistic anatomy - Bijutsukaibougaku (English) art anatomy
This is the field of human and animal anatomy that deals with matters related to artistic production, such as the structure and relationships of the skeleton, muscles, tendons, and body surface, as well as the changes that occur through movement and motion. It is particularly important as a fundamental condition for artistic creation in sculpture and painting. Traces of a growing interest in anatomy can be seen in the nude sculptures of ancient Greece, but it was only after the Renaissance that artists' anatomical knowledge based on medicine improved. A. Pollaiuolo left behind anatomical drawings, and Leonardo da Vinci explored the anatomy of the human body and horses through artistic brushwork. A. Dürer also demonstrated his excellent anatomical knowledge in his drawings and prints.
