A former town in Nishimuro District, southern Wakayama Prefecture. Occupying the middle and lower reaches of the Hiki River, most of the town is covered by forests, producing timber and lumber. The Kisei Main Line runs through the town. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Shirahama Town, Nishimuro District. Area: 136.31 km2 . Population: 4,976 (2003). 和歌山県南部，西牟婁(にしむろ)郡の旧町。日置川の中・下流域を占め，大部分は山林で，木材を産し，製材も行う。紀勢本線が通じる。2006年３月西牟婁郡白浜町へ編入。136.31km2。4976人（2003）。
