A former town in Sosa County in the northeast of Chiba Prefecture. It straddles the Shimousa Plateau and the Kujukuri Plain. Rice is the main crop, but livestock and greenhouse vegetable cultivation are also carried out. The "Kiraigo" ceremony held at Kosaiji Temple in Musho is an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. In March 2006, it merged with Yokoshiba Town in Sanbu County to become Yokoshibahikari Town in Sanbu County. 33.31 km2 . 12,300 people (2003). 千葉県北東部，匝瑳(そうさ)郡の旧町。下総(しもうさ)台地と九十九里平野にまたがる。米作が主で，畜産，施設野菜の栽培も行う。虫生(むしょう)の広済寺で行われる〈鬼来迎(きらいごう)〉は重要無形民俗文化財。2006年３月，山武郡横芝町と合併し町制，山武郡横芝光町となる。33.31km2。１万2300人（2003）。
