Common name of Ivan I, Prince of Moscow. Reigned 1325-40. At that time, Russia was a complex of large and small principalities, including Tber, Ryazan, and Novgorod, all under the indirect control of the Golden Horde. In 1327, an envoy from the Khan was killed in Tber, and a rebellion broke out. Ivan, on the Khan's behalf, led an army of 50,000 men, and was granted the coveted title of Grand Prince of Vladimir in 1328 for his efforts in suppressing the rebellion. The Greek Orthodox metropolitan who had moved from Kiev to Vladimir also supported Ivan.

モスクワ公イワン1世の通称。在位1325‐40年。当時のロシアは，トベーリ，リャザン，ノブゴロドなど大小の諸公国が並び立ち，キプチャク･ハーン国の間接支配下にあった。1327年トベーリでハーンの使節を殺害，反乱がおこると，イワンはハーンの委任をうけて5万のハーン軍とともに兵をすすめ，鎮圧の功により，翌28年に念願のウラジーミル大公の称号を許された。キエフからウラジーミルに移ってきていた正教会のギリシア人府主教も，イワンの支持者にまわった。
