A town in Kimotsuki County facing Shibushi Bay in the northeastern part of the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. Kashiwabaru, at the mouth of the Kimotsuki River, prospered in the Edo period through rice shipping and trade with the Ryukyu Islands, but is now a small fishing port. Rice and vegetables such as cucumbers and peppers are cultivated, and coastal fishing is also carried out.
