Red-eared slider - Red-eared slider

Japanese: アカミミガメ - あかみみがめ(英語表記)red-eared slider
Red-eared slider - Red-eared slider
A turtle of the Eridan family. There are 12 subspecies, including the red-eared slider, yellow-bellied slider, and peacock slider, but there is no turtle simply called the red-eared slider. It is widely distributed from the southeastern United States to northern South America, and is 20 to 30 cm long with a single ridge only in the center of the carapace. It has beautiful markings on the carapace, plastron, and head and neck, but there is a lot of variation among individuals, and the carapace becomes blackish and the markings fade as it grows. The claws on the front legs of mature males are longer than those of females, and during the breeding season, they shake them near the female's face as a courtship behavior.
