Hiuchidai (Rosy soldier fish)

Japanese: ヒウチダイ - ひうちだい（英語表記）rosy soldier fish

A marine fish of the family Botrydae in the order Alfonsino. It is widely distributed from the Kanto region southward, and is also known from Australia, the waters off the Madeira Islands in the North Atlantic, and the Mediterranean Sea. Its body is laterally compressed and pale pink in color. Its head is large and its surface is highly ridged. The scales on the ventral edge anterior to the anus have strong spines that form a line of ridges running from front to back. Its dorsal fin has six slender spines that are longer toward the rear. It is about 30 cm long. It lives near the seabed at moderate depths, and is caught by mechanical bottom trawling.

キンメダイ目ヒウチダイ科の海産魚（イラスト）。関東地方以南に広く分布し，オーストラリア，北大西洋のマデイラ諸島近海，地中海などからも知られている。体は側扁し，淡紅色を呈する。頭部は大きく，その表面は隆起に富んでいる。肛門より前方の腹縁にあるうろこには強いとげがあり，前後に連なった隆起線をつくっている。背びれの棘条（きよくじよう）は6本あって細長く，後方ほど長い。全長30cm程度。やや深い海底付近にすみ，機船底引網で漁獲される。
