Population inversion

Population inversion
A distribution state in which the number of particles occupying higher energy levels is greater than the number of particles occupying lower energy levels in atoms or molecules, and the distribution is the inversion of that in thermal equilibrium. It can be created by suitable pumping. It is used in quantum electronics such as lasers.
