From Nagasaki Prefecture

…In 1868 (Meiji 1), the Nagasaki Court was established and took jurisdiction over the former Tenryo (Short Domain), soon renamed Nagasaki Prefecture, and annexed Amakusa Prefecture (Higo) to become Nagasaki Prefecture the following year. In 1871, the feudal domains were abolished and prefectures were established, and each domain became a prefecture, but in the same year Izuhara Prefecture was merged with Saga Prefecture to become Imari Prefecture, and the others were integrated into Nagasaki Prefecture, and the Amakusa region was transferred to Yatsushiro Prefecture (Higo). The following year, Nagasaki Prefecture incorporated the former Izuhara Prefecture from Saga Prefecture (which had been renamed Imari Prefecture), and in 1876, it also annexed the former Saga Prefecture portion that had been annexed to Mizuma Prefecture (Chikugo), but when Saga Prefecture was re-established in 1883, it was separated, and the current prefectural boundaries were established. …
