A general term for the genus Banksia in the Proteaceae family (APG classification: Proteaceae). Semi-cold-tolerant tall or shrub. Native to Australia. Leaves come in a variety of shapes, including those with deep sawtooth edges, wavy leaves, green leaves with silvery-white fluff on the underside, and pinnate leaves. Flowering occurs mostly from spring to early summer, and the flowers last a long time. Flowers are terminal or axillary, and in their native habitat they grow about 1 meter above the ground. The inflorescence is 10-30 cm long and 5-9 cm wide. Flower colors include orange, yellow, red, and purple. In summer, it dislikes high temperatures and humidity, so use soil that has good drainage. In winter, keep the temperature at 2-3°C. It is best propagated by seed, but cuttings are difficult.
