Anti-science is a term that refers to a general ideology that challenges the idea that the quantitative and empirical approach to objects (nature, society, humans), which is considered scientific today, is the only absolute way to arrive at the truth. However, in reality, the term anti-science has always been used ambiguously. The reason for this is that its antonym, science, has also been used ambiguously. There are countless people who have claimed that their worldview and values are superior to other worldviews and values by labeling them as "scientific."

反科学とは，こんにち科学的とみなされている数量的･実証的な，対象(自然，社会，人間)への接近方法が，真理に到達できる唯一絶対の方法である，という考え方に異議を唱える思想全般を指す言葉である。ただし実際には反科学という言葉は，ずっと多義的に使われている。その理由は，反対語にあたる科学が，やはり多義的に用いられてきたことにある。みずからの世界観や価値観を〈科学的〉と銘打つことにより，他の世界観や価値観よりも優位にあることを主張してきた人々は，枚挙にいとまがない。
