Anotsu Domain

Japanese: 安濃津藩 - あのつはん
Anotsu Domain
Also called Tsu Domain. During the Edo period, this domain ruled over Anno District, Ise Province (Mie Prefecture) and the Kozuke region, Iga Province (Mie Prefecture). Its castle was in Tsu, Ano District, Ise Province. In Bunroku 3 (1594), Toyotomi Hideyoshi granted this area to Tomita Tomonobu, who participated in the Eastern Army at the Battle of Sekigahara. After being defeated, he fled to Mount Koya, but the Tokugawa clan rewarded him with an additional 20,000 koku and restored the castle to a fief of 70,000 koku. In Keicho 12 (1607), it moved to Uwajima, Iyo Province (Ehime Prefecture), and the following year, Todo Takatora was appointed from Imabari in the same province. After he ruled over 220,000 koku in both Ise and Iga Provinces, he was given several additional fiefs, which increased his fief to 320,000 koku until the Meiji Restoration. He was an outsider and stayed in the Great Hall of Edo Castle. In the 9th year of the Kanbun era (1669), the Ise Hisai domain of 50,000 koku was divided for Todo Takamichi, leading to the abolition of the feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures.
